PORTAGE, Mich. – A crash involving multiple vehicles took place on I-94 in both the eastbound and westbound lanes Tuesday night.
It happened shortly after 10:00 p.m. west of U.S. 131. Two semi trailers collided in the westbound lane, causing both of them to jack-knife, police said. During the crash, the barrier wall was struck, causing large chunks of concrete to fall into the eastbound lanes. A separate eastbound semi truck then struck the barrier wall as well. Two passenger vehicles hit the concrete debris as a result.
The two jack-knifed semi suffered substantial damage, and the third was moderately damaged. No injuries were reported, but traffic was heavily impacted.
Michigan State Police and MDOT assisted with the cleanup efforts. As of 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, the accident has been cleared and traffic is back to normal.
