GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Bands of heavy lake-effect snow that developed Wednesday night will continue throughout the day Thursday and into Friday, leaving significant accumulations around much of the FOX 17 viewing area.

As of 3:00 A.M., the heaviest band so far had been shifting northward through Kalamazoo and Allegan counties, as well as in the Holland area.  A second moderate to heavy band was affecting southern portions of Kent County.

These bands will continue to shift a bit Thursday morning before settling into a pattern that will persist into Thursday night.  That pattern will dump the heaviest snow in Ottawa, Allegan, Van Buren, and Kalamazoo counties.  Significant accumulation is likely as well in at least parts of Muskegon, Oceana, Kent, Barry, and possibly Newaygo counties.

Additionally, temperatures will hold around 20° for much of the day Thursday, causing standing water from earlier in the week to freeze.  Also, a handful of flood warnings and advisories continue on local rivers and streams.  That information is best found on the National Weather Service hydrology page.

FOX 17 is continuing to work on the overall snowfall forecast for the next 24 hours.  Watch for updates on FOX 17 Morning News and here on FOX17online.com throughout the day.
