KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Friends of the Kalamazoo College girl who died on Sunday tell FOX 17 News their friend “was wonderful.”
Emily Stillman, 19, was taken to Bronson Hospital early Friday morning where she was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. On Sunday, with family by her side, the girl passed away.
Following her death, friends and college classmates held a ceremony on campus to try to cope with the sudden and unexpected loss.
“She didn’t care who you were, what your background was. She would just talk to you,” said Abby Keizer, Stillman’s classmate. “She’d start off, ‘how’s your day going?’ She’d listen and ask questions. She was wonderful.”
Kalamazoo College said they’ve reached out to students who may have had contact with Stillman the week before her death. More than 120 students have received medical treatment in efforts to avoid another bacterial meningitis case.
