GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — While some parts of West Michigan have been dealing with snow since mid-morning, a few locations have freezing rain falling as of midday.
Reports indicated freezing rain spreading eastward along I-94 from Benton Harbor into Van Buren County during the late morning hours.
Elsewhere, bands of moderate to heavy snow were persisting from Allegan County into metro Grand Rapids. The above photo was taken by FOX 17 reporter Jennifer Dowling, showing roads becoming snow-covered and slushy in Grand Rapids. Two inches of snow were already reported in Grandville, with a report of three inches in Holland as of 12:15 P.M. Allegan County central dispatchers reported four inches had already fallen there.
Regional radar trends suggest that the heaviest precipitation will shift northward this afternoon, with snow likely intensifying into this evening.
The snowfall forecast remains unchanged for now, although recent computer data suggests there may be some higher totals embedded within the overall 4-8″ or 5-10″ bands shown below. The heavier bands may also need to be shifted southward a bit as well. Chief Meteorologist Rick Mecklenburg will have updated snow maps later in the day.
