School Bus Rollover, 1 Injured

IONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A school bus rolled over Thursday afternoon in Ionia Township, causing one child to be transported from the scene for minor injuries.

The crash happened at Dildine and Graff roads at about 2:10 p.m. According to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office, the bus driver, Mary Groom, ran into trouble as she was approaching the curved roadway. She lost control and the bus ran off the road, rolling over onto its side.

Five children were on the bus at the time. The driver was able to help students to safety by taking them to a nearby home.

No other cars were involved in the crash.

    Something different is going to have to be done about letting those buses out on these roads. So what if they have to go to school half the summer to make up their days. At least they will be alive. The kids are on their computers half the time anyway. Why not arrange for them to do their studies that way. Back in the olden days we used to work ahead in our books if we had to stay home with a communicable disease or something and the same thing could be done on these bad road days. All they would have to do is bring most of their books home when there is a report of a storm on it's way.

    Could of been prevented if she was driving for weather conditions. All who hold a "professional" license know better. Just glad that all kids were ok and the bus driver was not hurt.
