WEST MICHIGAN – The National Weather Service has hoisted a WIND ADVISORYfor the entire FOX 17 viewing area from 7:00 AM Monday through 9:00 PM Monday. While it will be breezy tonight, winds are expected to ramp up on Monday from the southwest to west/southwest at about 20 to 30 mph sustained. That means we’ll see gusts at the lakeshore around 45 mph and around 40 mph inland.
The winds will be generated by a deepening low pressure system moving through the Great Lakes…the same system that is generating heavy snow and blizzard warnings across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest. Any light rain and drizzle that we see overnight into Monday morning will eventually mix with a change over to light snow showers as temps remain steady in the mid 30s Monday. A one to three-inch accumulation of snow will be possible, mainly along and west of U.S. 131 as we head through the day on Monday and Monday evening.
With the strong winds expected on Monday, the National Weather Service also issued a GALE WARNINGfor Lake Michigan with six to ten foot waves developing.
