GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Many West Michigan residents may finally be wishing snow would end for the season, but it looks like Mother Nature has other ideas later this week.

The above image gives a general idea of the nationwide temperature pattern heading into the coming weekend — the purple colors show very cold air dropping into the upper Midwest once again.  This comes after a fairly seasonable string of temperatures through most of the week, including readings that may reach 40° again Thursday.

Medium-range computer forecast models indicate that another push of Arctic air will make a run for the Great Lakes behind a low-pressure system that moves through Thursday.  That will open the door to temperatures only in the 20s Friday through the weekend, as well as the potential for another round of significant lake-effect snow.

That period is still several days away, so it’s much too distant to make detailed forecasts, but the general idea is that winds from the northwest will keep the highest snow amounts in the lake-effect snowbelts southwest of Grand Rapids, especially in Ottawa, Allegan, and Van Buren counties.

The forecast will likely change somewhat between now and then, so check back with FOX 17 News and the FOX17online.com Weather pagefor the updated 7 Day forecast.
