COVERT, Mich. –Palisades nuclear power plant in Covert, Mich. has shut down again.

The decision was made to remove Palisades from service on Friday, after several days of troubleshooting the plant’s component cooling water heat exchanger system, according to Mark Savage, a spokesperson for the company.

In a news release from the plant, it was determined that a leak occurred as a possible result of a damaged tube in the heat exchanger. The leak, which the company said is non-radioactive, was released into the environment through the service waster system.

The company said there was no danger to the public.
