NUNICA, Mich. — This week’s weather prompted the Michigan Department of Transportation to postpone lane closures and ramp closures on I-96. That project is scheduled to restart Thursday.
Here’s the plan:
- I-96 westbound – Reduced to one lane from 112th Avenue to the Apple Drive overpass. This lane closure may be temporary; earlier MDOT notices scheduled this lane closure to last only four days.
- I-96 eastbound – All traffic channeled to one lane around Apple Drive, then crosses over to one lane on the westbound side until after 112th Avenue, then crosses back to the eastbound side. This will be in place through June 28.
- M-104 eastbound – The ramp to eastbound I-96 closed through June 28.
What hasn’t been announced: will the westbound ramp from I-96 to M-104 be closed, forcing drivers bound for Spring Lake and Grand Haven to exit early at 112th Avenue? Though MDOT hasn’t said anything, there is no way to have a concrete barrier in the westbound lanes and have that ramp open.
