Thursday Forecast: A Break Today, Snow Returns Friday

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Thursday will give West Michigan a break from the snow, but only a brief one.  The big storm system that will move through the Plains and Midwest Thursday will reach the Great Lakes as it weakens by Friday morning.

Thursday will feature mostly cloudy conditions as moisture remains trapped around the area.  High temperatures will reach the mid to upper 20s in the afternoon.

Snow showers will develop by daybreak Friday, possibly creating slick conditions on the morning commute.  There will be only a few hours of substantial snowfall, with most of it tapering off after midday.

As the above map shows, computer snowfall estimates are around two inches for most of West Michigan during the day Friday.  However, some light mixed precipitation may fall into Friday afternoon, including the possibility of light freezing rain or freezing drizzle.  We’ll have to watch conditions closely after midday tomorrow.

Conditions will be generally quiet and seasonable through the weekend — check out the 7 Day Forecast on the Weather page.
