GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A short window of heavy snow will result in slippery road conditions for the Friday morning commute. While the overall snow totals will not be extreme, the timing of the snow will be what causes problems for drivers.
As of 3:45 A.M., a band of moderate to heavy snow was moving into parts of southern Kent and Ottawa counties, reducing visibility at times to between one-half and one mile. That rate of snow may amount to as much as an inch per hour at times through mid-morning. Most areas in West Michigan will receive up to three inches of snow through midday.
Snow will not persist all day, but taper off as midday approaches. At that point, lighter snow showers mixed with some light rain or freezing rain will be likely, depending on surface temperatures. Those readings are expected to get into the mid 30s south of Grand Rapids, but hovering around freezing elsewhere into the afternoon.
Light snow showers will likely continue overnight and much of Saturday with an additional inch or two of accumulation.
