Melting Commences As Temps Slowly Rise Above Freezing

The attached snapshot from our FOX 17 graphics system shows current air temperatures as of 3:00 PM on Sunday. Almost all locations have risen above the freezing mark slowly melting the snow and ice on the pavement. Driving conditions on some of the secondary streets have improved as the significant ice that was in place the last few days is beginning to turn to slush. But be careful, we will likely see a refreeze as we head through the overnight hours and temps drop in to the low/mid 20s again.

Monday will be a relatively quiet day with some sunshine possible as a weak area of high pressure builds in to the Great Lakes. Temps should push upper 30s to near 40 degrees in many locations. This will be the calm before the storm. A developing and deepening low pressure system will track north from Texas over the next 24 to 36 hours and impact the Great Lakes on Tuesday. Although our forecast models are showing the possibility of heavy snow Tuesday afternoon/evening/night in to Wednesday, there is a chance some rain, freezing rain, and/or sleet may mix in and knock those snow totals down. Preliminarily, three to six inches are possible from Tuesday through the day Wednesday.

Make sure to stay up on later forecasts. I’ll have a complete posting on this developing winter storm a bit later this evening.
