Tuesday Forecast: Messy Mix Later

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Tuesday will start on a dry note, but a storm system moving through the southern Great Lakes will bring a sloppy mix of wet snow and rain that will be wind-driven and heavy at times through Tuesday night.

Wet weather will begin after midday and spread into West Michigan from south to north.  Because the timing will coincide with temperatures in the upper 30s for most of the area, we will likely see some of the precipitation start as rain for locations south of Grand Rapids.

The transition to wet snow will take place quickly by early evening, and that snow will be heavy at times into the overnight period.  Accumulations will be mostly in the two- to four-inch range through early Wednesday, with some additional minor accumulation during the day Wednesday.  However, areas south and east of Grand Rapids may see some higher totals depending on the timing and placement of the heaviest bands of snow.

Because of the difficulties of pinpointing the combination of rain and snow as it moves in, the snow forecast is still likely to change later today.  Stay with FOX 17 News and check back with FOX17online.com for updates.  You can also check out interactive radar and the rest of the 7 Day Forecast on the Weather page.
