WEST MICHIGAN — (FOX 17) — As we “March” into a new month, here is a look at the normal weather and some of the records that exist.

TEMPERATURES: Normal highs rise from 38º on the 1st to 51º by the 31st. Normal lows rise from 23º to 32º. The record high for March was set just last year in 2012, when the high was 87º on the 21st. The record low is -13º, which was set on the 8th in 1943.

PRECIPITATION: There is normally 2.37″ of precipitation in March. There has been as much as 5.77″ (1948) and as little as .08″ (1910).

SNOWFALL: Included in the precipitation total is the liquid equivalent of snow. There is normally 8.3″ of snow in March. The snowiest March was in 1965, when Grand Rapids received 36.0″.

LENGTH OF DAYLIGHT:  On the 1st, the sunrise is at 7:18AM, and the sunset is at 6:32PM. This gives a length of daylight of 11 hours and 14 minutes. By the end of the month, the sunrise occurs at 7:26AM (EDT), and the sunset is at 8:08PM. This results in 12 hours and 42 minutes of daylight. What this means is the length of daylight increases by an hour and 28 minutes this month, the most of any month.
