DETROIT — The Detroit Red Wings were 2:03 away from snapping the NHL’s longest season-opening points streak. Chicago’s Patrick Kane scored a power-play goal with 2:02 left in the third and then scored the only goal in the shootout to give the NHL-leading Blackhawks a 2-1 win at Joe Louis Arena.

The Blackhawks now have points in all 22 games they’ve played so far this season.

Red Wings rookie forward Tomas Tatar broke a scoreless tie with his fourth goal of the season 2:43 into the third period.

Going back to last season, the Blackhawks have earned points in their last 28 regular season games which is tied for the second-longest streak in league history.
