WEST MICHIGAN – The attached snapshot is from Sunday afternoon from our FOX 17 ALERT system. It shows a swath of winter storm watches and warnings from the Northern Plains to just west of Michigan. While no alerts have been posted yet for our area, this system has the potential to deliver accumulating snow across the region on Tuesday.

The track of the actual low pressure area will dictate how much snow will fall and where, but areas west of Michigan may see about six to as many as 12 inches over the next two days. While the main area of low will track to our south, there will be enough energy north of the system to produce accumulating snow in southern lower Michigan. Preliminary ideas are that three to six inches (perhaps a bit more) will be possible in areas south of Grand Rapids beginning on Tuesday and continuing through Tuesday evening and night. Areas around Grand Rapids and vicinity could see one to three, perhaps two to four inches by Wednesday morning. Lesser accumulations would be likely north and east of Grand Rapids.

Again…the track of this system may change so make sure to stay up on later forecasts. We’ll update later this evening on air and online. To see all of the watches/warnings/advisories, click here.  Get the complete West Michigan forecast at www.fox17online.com/weather.
