GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- Cancer is no laughing matter but Michigan Bloodand those behind LaughFest found out that it makes perfect sense to kickoff off this fun-filled 10 day event, by having donors roll up their sleeves and help out those at Gilda’s Club in Grand Rapids.
“The number one use for blood products and services is to treat cancer patients, that’s not really well-known and Gilda’s Club exists to help cancer patients.” Vice President of Community Relations for Michigan Blood, Jim Childress said.
From 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, March 3 walk-ins are welcome at Michigan Blood located at 1035 Fuller NE. Every person who attempts to donate will be entered to win one of five LaughFest ticket packages. On top of that, Blue Care Network and the Wege Foundation will donate $10 Gilda’s Club Grand Rapids High Five Children’s Grief Program.
On Thursday, March 7, LaughFest will attempt to break another Guinness World Record; this time for the number of people in the same location wearing fake mustaches. Those who want to join this hilarious feat, are asked to be down to Rosa Park’s Circle in Grand Rapids around 5:30 p.m. After a rehearsal, the true count will take place around 6:30 p.m.
“Right now it’s the St. Louis Rams. They set it at an event in September 2012 with 648 participants so we’re hoping to top that by a long shot.” Erik Molenberg, Marketing and Public Relations Manager for Gilda’s Club and LaughFest said.
