GRPS Unveils School Uniforms

grps school uniforms.jpegGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Grand Rapids Public Schools unveiled the new school uniforms students are to wear starting this fall.

On their website, GRPS says that the benefits to uniforms include increased focus on learning and teaching, reduced distraction and peer pressure, and cost savings for families.

The tops include collared shirts, vests and sweaters. They come in navy blue, light blue, white, black and red.

Dresses and skirts are also available in addition to pants and shorts. Those come in navy blue, black and khaki.

Parents can buy uniforms online at Meijer’s website or at the following Meijer locations:

  • 2425 Alpine Ave. NW in Grand Rapids
  • 5531 28th St. SE in Grand Rapids
  • 1540 28th St. SE in Grand Rapids
  • 5500 Clyde Park Ave. SW in Wyoming

Education Outfitters is another vendor selling the uniforms which can be purchased through their website or at their location on 28th Street.

Elementary and K8 students are to begin wearing uniforms for the 2013-2014 school year. The following school year, all middle schools will implement the uniforms. Students at all high schools and alternative schools will start wearing uniforms for the 2015-2016 school year, and center-based special education programs are exempt from wearing uniforms.
