GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.–  It’s LaughFest Eve. The big 10-day comedy event kicks off Thursday.

So far, over a thousand volunteers are trained and ready to answer any and all questions. One of the most anticipated events is the world record attempt for the largest gathering of people wearing mustaches.

“The current record is 648 people,” said Festival Director, Joann Roehm. “The last record was set at a Rams game in St. Louis. We want to annihilate that. We don’t want 649 or 650.”

The evening begins at 5:30 pm with the official line up and passing out of mustaches and buttons. Practice is at 6:15 pm and the official attempt is at 6:30 pm.

“If you have your own mustache, that doesn’t count so be sure to get one of ours,” said Roehm.

People are already excited about some of the big name acts, like E! Network Host, Joel McHale, entertainer Wayne Brady, and Saturday Night Live alum, Jim Breuer. But, unlike rock stars, we’re told these guys don’t have any crazy requests.

“Comedians are pretty easy-going,” said Roehm. “We don’t have any crazy requests for all green M&Ms or anything like that. But one thing they always talk about is the hospital they receive in Grand Rapids.”

Opening night will also feature chicken dinner specials at participating restaurants, as well as comedy preview shows.
