DETROIT, Mich — The Detroit Tigers have released outfielder  Brennan Boesch, and Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski told the media on Wednesday that Andy Dirks will be the team’s primary left fielder.

After releasing Boesch, the Tigers will owe him about $400,000.

Boesch was injured for a portion of  spring camp with an oblique strain. He hit .240 with 12 home runs and 54 RBIs in 2012.

Boesch was not with the Tigers in their postseason run.
