MARYSVILLE, Calif — A car lost control and slammed into the pit, killing two spectators, at a California race track Saturday evening.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s office said the crash happened during the warm up laps, an hour before the race, at Marysville Raceway Park–about 40 miles north of Sacramento.

The driver had a stuck throttle and hit the left side of the wall near the pit area. He then hit two tractor tires, sending him airborne, said an announcer for sprint race cars Steven Blakesley.

Yuba County Sheriff’s office says the victims include a 68-year-old man who died at the scene and a 14-year-old boy who was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver was uninjured.

Saturday’s race was the season opener for the California Sprint Car Civil War Series.
