WEST MICHIGAN — (FOX 17) — Here is a look at normal April weather and some of the records that exist, as well as how much daylight we gain.

TEMPERATURE: Normal highs this month start at 52º on the 1st and rise to 64º by the 30th. Normal lows rise from 32º to 43º. The record high for the month is 90º, which occurred on the 29th in 1899. The record low is 3º, which was set on the 7th in 1982.

PRECIPITATION: April is known for its “April Showers.” There is normally 3.35″ precipitation this month. There has been as much as 8.29″ (1909) and as little as 0.39″ (1942).

APRIL SNOW SHOWERS: Not all the precipitation that falls in April is liquid. On average, however, there is just 1.8″ of snow. The snowiest April was in 1961, when Grand Rapids received 15.6″ for the month.

LENGTH OF DAYLIGHT: On the 1st, the sunrise is at 7:24AM, and the sunset is at 8:09PM. This gives a length of daylight of 12 hours and 45 minutes. By the end of the month, the sunrise is at 6:38AM, and the sunset occurs at 8:43PM. This results in a length of daylight of 14 hours and 5 minutes. The net gain of daylight this month is 1 hour and 20 minutes.
