ATLANTA — It was a lot closer than most thought it would be, but in the end it was the result most expected.

Louisville overcame an 12-point deficit with 13:35 left in the second half and defeated Wichita State 72-68 in the Final Four to advance to Monday’s National Championship game.

Russ Smith led the Cardinals with 21 points while Luke Hancock added 20 points coming off the bench and walk-on Tim Henderson hit two big 3-pointers to spark Louisville’s rally. Louisville advances to its first NCAA championship game since they last won it in 1986.

The Cardinals will take on the winner of the Michigan-Syracuse game at the Georgia Dome on Monday.
