70º Wednesday? Still Possible.

WEST MICHIGAN — (FOX 17) — An interesting week of weather is on the way with rain, thunderstorms as well as the possibility of some wintry weather.  Overnight, there could be some drizzle and fog, but the gusty winds will let up quite a bit after sunset.

Despite the changes, I’m still sticking with my original forecast of hitting 70 this Wednesday, for now.  My forecast has received a lot of attention over the last week.  Based on my forecasting experience, I felt the warm air would move farther north than the computer models indicated at the time.  Everyone else stayed in the 40s.  As each day passed, the data started backing up my forecast, forcing others to raise their highs into the 60s for Wednesday.

In fact, as of this morning, one of the more reliable computer models was forecasting a high of 71º for Wednesday.  But you know Michigan weather,  it can change at a moment’s notice and in just a matter of hours, that same computer model is now forecasting a high of 44º for the same day.  This is obviously a big a forecasting dilemma for me and the FOX 17 weather team, not to mention adding a few new gray hairs.

So for now, my forecast stands at 70º but you can bet I’ll be tracking the latest data and will be the first to let you know if we can expect any changes as this warm front approaches West Michigan.  This map shows some incredibly mild air to the south, including 70s in Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio. Just how far north this warm air advances is the question and will dictate just how warm we get on Wednesday.
