photo (29)TEXAS TOWNSHIP, Mich.–Deputies in Kalamazoo County were called to a home in Texas Township early Thursday morning after an intruder was found hiding behind some curtains inside a downstairs room.

The call came in around 1:30 a.m. to a home located in the 5000 block of Woodrush Avenue.

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office reported that the homeowner, a 28-year-old woman, had returned from a Grand Rapids Griffins Hockey game with her boyfriend when she realized something wasn’t right.

Investigators say the woman noticed a dog bone was inside her dog’s cage that she did not place there. When the dog was let out, it began barking and ran downstairs, according to deputies.

The woman’s boyfriend, an off-duty Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Officer, went downstairs to check things out and discovered a man with a knife hiding behind some curtains.

The woman called 911 and the officer was able to apprehend the suspect until sheriff’s deputies arrived.

The man was taken into custody and is being held at the Kalamazoo County on possible charges of home invasion and stalking.

“This was not random, ” said Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller.

Investigators believe the suspect may have been a coworker of the victim, but would not go into detail.

Upon investigating, police discovered a GPS tracking device had been placed on the victim’s car and had been tracking her for some time.

The man was being questioned by police Thursday afternoon and is expected to be formally charged on Friday.
