GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – WOOD Radio announced Thursday that long-time morning host Gary Allen will retire June 21.

“I’ve made this decision because I still have lots of things I want to do,” said Allen.

“We thank Gary for his tireless service to WOOD Radio and Clear Channel Media and Entertainment,” said Tim Feagan, vice president market manager for West Michigan.

Allen began his career at WOOD Radio in March of 1981 and became the morning show host in June of 1989 as WOOD’s fourth morning host.

During his tenure at the station, Allen has conducted on-air interviews with President Ford, President George H.W. Bush and many presidential candidates and entertainment and sports figures.

Allen also has broadcast live from Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany; St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin, Ireland; the Genoa Expo in Italy; the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.; and a ground zero broadcast from New York City on the one-year anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
