Motorcycle Rider Seriously Hurt In Ionia County

IONIA TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A motorcyclist was seriously hurt when a car pulled out in front of him Monday afternoon.

At 2:40 p.m. Monday, the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash near the intersection of South State Road and Miller Street in Ionia Township. The investigation revealed that a 51-year-old man from Saranac was riding a a motorcycle southbound on South State Road when a 16-year-old girl from Ionia pulled onto South State Road from Miller Street in front of the motorcycle.

The motorcycle rider attempted to avoid the vehicle but was unable to do so and the two collided.

The motorcyclist was transported to Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ionia County Sheriff’s Office, which was assisted by the Ionia Department of Public Safety, Life Ambulance, Reed and Hoppes towing, and Ionia County Central Dispatch.
