CALEDONIA, Mich — Winning 12 straight and 20 of your last 22 games is a good way to go into your conference tournament, just ask Davenport baseball coach Kevin Tidey.  “I think it’s exciting because I still don’t feel like we’ve played our best baseball yet, we are pretty excited for this tournament and hopefully we can continue to play at a higher level every day” Tidey said Tuesday at practice.

Davenport (35-12) is the 2-seed in the tournament, regular season champion Madonna (33-7) is the top seed.  The Panthers begion play at 1 P.M. Wednesday against 3rd seed Indiana Tech (28-15), Davenport just swept the Warriors in a 4 game series last weekend.  “It’s tough to beat a team 5 times in a row but I got to go out and do what I did last time, throw a lot of strikes, get ahead early and stick with my best pitch which is my fastball” said Danny Sullivan who will be the starting pitcher for DU on Wednesday against Indiana Tech.

Aquinas College (23-18) is the 4-seed and will play 5th seeded Northwestern Ohio in the tournaments first game at 10 A.M. Wednesday.  The 5-team tournament is double elimination.

The Panthers are excited to show off their beautiful new facility, the newly built Farmers Athletic Complex figures to offer Davenport an advantage.  “We get to sleep in our own beds and we don’t have to travel anywhere, we’ve been seeing the ball well here all year so it’s going to be fun” said Davenport catcher Michael Allen.  The Panthers are 18-3 at home this season.

The 3-day tournament is scheduled to finish with the championship game on Friday afternoon.
