GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A dog bit four students at recess and then got inside a Grand Rapids school Tuesday afternoon.

During afternoon recess at the Grand Rapids Public Schools’ Southwest Community Campus, a dog entered the playground and bit four students. Staff members immediately moved all the children inside, but the dog was able to enter the school during this time.

The dog was contained in a secure area away from students and Kent County Animal Control responded to the scene and removed the dog. The animal was taken to the animal shelter pending further investigation.

The school district said five youngsters sustained either minor bites or scratches from the dog. Students who came into contact with the dog received medical treatment and their parents were notified.

GRPS also sent a letter home with students at the end of the day.

The Southwest Community Campus is located at 801 Oakland Ave. SW in Grand Rapids.
