TurksNUNICA, Mich. – Thousands of people pass Turk’s Inn restaurant each and everyday as it sits about 100 yards off I-96 at the Nunica exit. In fact, anybody on their way to the lakeshore via 96 would most certainly speed by. The restaurant (bar and grill) has been sitting in the same location since 1933 and is one of Ottawa County’s longest running businesses. I’ll give you a few different reasons to check this place out!

Owner Francine Brown bought the business from her parents who owned it for 30 years. The original Brunswick wood bar is still used today, made by Fred Allison whose nickname was “Turk.” There’s also more original carved wood throughout the bar and grill, along with low lighting, quaint atmosphere, and just an all-around great place to gather with friends and family.

In addition to all homemade (from scratch) food and dressings, Turk’s has actually won multiple awards from the Spring Lake Heritage Festival for best bloody Mary and best BBQ wings. You’ll also find some of the best burgers around…like their signature Rosie Burger with ham, bacon, and cheese. Hand-dipped onion rings, a heated french vanilla bread pudding, carrot cake, and many other favorites.

Turk’s tends to be quite crowded on Friday and Saturday, so the off times to enjoy the food and atmosphere without a line is Monday through Thursday. You’ll find breakfast and prime rib specials on the weekend.

Workers say with the recent construction at the M104 exit (Grand Haven) that business has actually gotten better. People going to Grand Haven are forced to exit at Nunica and they are discovering the restaurant. This year marks their 80th anniversary and they’ve got t-shirts for sale commemorating the milestone.

While Turk’s doesn’t serve draft beer, they do have plenty of stellas and reds, and seem to be known for their Moscato wine. Even their signature bloody Marys are served up with a skewer of pickle, cheese, shrimp, strawberries, and sometimes salami. Make sure to click on their website here. You’ll find a full menu there from both locations…the original in Nunica…and a second in Holland. Next time you stop in…tell them FOX 17 sent you!
