GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A recent audit of the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans is raising some concerns about the care of patients.

Overall, an audit conducted by the Michigan Office of the Auditor General showed the home was “moderately effective” at providing services to the 434 patients at the facility.

However, the audit showed the home did not provide a psychiatrist for people with mental health disorders.

The audit was completed in the fiscal year ending in September of 2012.

It also found the veteran’s home did not effectively safeguard food, maintenance supplies and medical supplies on-site.

The state auditor made nine recommendations stemming from the report.
