MUSKEGON, Mich. — Early Wednesday morning, Elijah Henderson’s life was cut short.

“I’m still stunned. I still can’t believe it,” Dorian Glover, a friend of Henderson said.

“When you say ‘Elijah died.’ You don’t believe it, cause you wanna know why,” she expressed.

Muskegon Police said the 17 year old was walking on 5th Street near Strong Avenue around 1:00 a.m. That’s when he was shot. Neighbors said they heard about 5 gunshots.

He was pronounced dead on the way to Mercy Health.

Friends said Henderson was heading to a buddy’s home to stay the night, but he never made it. Now a memorial marks the spot where he took his last steps.

“He was a real sweet person. You could always count on Elijah. He was loving. He was a good person,” Glover said.

“Elijah was only 17 years old. He had his whole life ahead of him,” she said.

Another friend, who didn’t want to be identified, said he warned Henderson about the dangers of the streets.

“I just kept telling him ‘you got to be careful’ because people… they dying left and right,” the teen said.

“They shooting out here, nobody cares anymore,” he added.
