Hope falls to Adrian in MIAA Baseball Tournament

HOLLAND, Mich — The top seeded Hope baseball team fell to second seeded Adrian Thursday morning at Boeve Stadium 11-6.

Hope (27-14) started the scoring the in the top of the 4th inning when Chris Blair (East Grand Rapids) singled home a run (his 5th RBI in the last 2 games) and freshman Luke Brower (Holland Christian) delivered a 3-run bases loaded double to make it 4-0.  Adrian (30-12) came back with 1 run in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, 3 in the 6th, 2 in the 7th and 3 in the 8th.  Hope scored on a bases loaded walk to Brady VanderWeele and Eric Dawson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded in the top of the 9th to make the score 11-6.

Flying Dutchmen starting pitcher Currey Thomas (7-3) took the loss going 5 plus innings and allowing 6 runs, freshman Jake Chipka worked the last 3 innings allowing 5 runs.  Bulldogs starter Holden Branch (7-1) got the win going 7 innings allowing 4 runs, Cory Fox came in to get the final out with the bases loaded to record his 1st save of the season.

Hope will now play an elimination game Wednesday at 4pm against the Trine/Calvin winner.  Adrian advances to the championship round Friday at noon.
