Witness Has Seizure During Preliminary Hearing

courtroom seizSTANTON, Mich. – A witness for the prosecution fell off the stand in a Montcalm County Court while having a seizure during the preliminary hearing for a child abuse case.

On Tuesday, the hearing was held for Samantha Slater from Greenville. She was formerly charged with 1st degree child abuse in April.

The witness, Rebecca Carriveau, was roommates with Slater when the alleged abuse occurred.

Medical personnel arrived within minutes and took Carriveau out on a stretcher.

Due to the circumstances the judge granted an adjournment.

Slater will be back in court on Thursday, May 16.

Her daughter remains on life support at Helen Devos Children’s Hospital In Grand Rapids.
