GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man was hospitalized after his leg was caught in a hay baler Thursday afternoon.

At 3:25 p.m. Thursday, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of an industrial accident at the Berry Family of Nurseries at 15155 Fillmore St. in Grand Haven Township. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies and the Grand Haven Township Fire Department found a 29-year-old male employee from Holland Township with his left leg caught in a hay baler.

The baler was dismantled and the victim’s leg was extricated after an hour.

Deputies said the baler jammed, the man kicked his foot into the baler to try and unjam it, and his leg became stuck.

The man was transported to North Ottawa Community Hospital for treatment. Deputies said the extent of his injuries are unknown but the injuries were limited to his left leg.
