GRAND RAPIDS, MI -A forgotten street in Grand Rapids’ Heritage Hill neighborhood is going to get a temporary face-lift this weekend. Volunteers with the “Build a Better Block” project are trying to prove that with a few minor changes State Street SE can become a vibrant part of the community again. The plan includes installing temporary pop-up shops, new streetscapes, and demonstration projects, like turning a vacant museum into a movie theater that serves beer. The DDA has invested $15,000 in the experiment, hoping that it inspires new ideas and redevelopment. The event runs both Saturday and Sunday. The pubic is invited to come down and check it out.
