HAMILTON, Mich — Sophomore Nick Carlson shot a career best 10-under par 62 on Saturday at Diamond Springs Golf Course in Hamilton, easily taking medalist honors for the tournament.
Nick said he has shot 62 at Diamond Springs before but it was special to do it in a tournament, “there’s not really a way to describe it, if you can have rounds where you can be low and go out there and have that experience then you can do it in a tournament and I think I proved it” Carlson said.
Carlson won the individual state championship in division 2 last season and will begin defense of that title this week with districts at Quail Ridge in Ada. He feels his low round Saturday will make others take notice, “I really showed some players that I can play and am not just a fluke that maybe my 1 or 2 under rounds at state were an accident, now I can actually show them that I can play and play well” Carlson said.
This season the division 2 state finals are at the Meadows in Allendale, Carlson battled the wind to shoot 76 there on Monday in the OK Green conference meet, again taking madalist honors.
