COOPERSVILLE, Mich. — In addition to parades and services across West Michigan to honor our veterans on Memorial Day, the Coopersville & Marne Railway Company is offering vets another perk.
The company is hosting its 11th annual Veterans Free Troop Train on Monday, and all military veterans can ride for free. They are also encouraged to wear uniforms, although it is not required.
In addition, the usual child’s ticket fare of $9.50 will apply for all passengers, regardless of age, and children two years old and under get to ride for free.
The train features passenger cars that were used during World War II and the Korean War to transfer troops across the country.
Departures will be at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and when the first train returns at 12:25 p.m., there will be a Welcome Home ceremony in the parking lot of the station. The Coopersville Community Band will welcome the veterans, and a railroad official, Miss Coopersville, and Jr. Miss Coopersville will deliver speeches.
