Robert NylenADA, Mich. – The search continues for a missing Kent County man after he went missing over the weekend.

Police say Robert Nylen, 62, went missing after having an argument with his girlfriend and jumping out of the car they were riding in.  They say he ran into Ada Park on Saturday around 11:30 a.m.

Nylen’s girlfriend says he never returned home that night, and she called police to report him missing Sunday morning.  Police checked Ada Park and found no sign of Nylen. They’ve pinged his phone, and the park was the last place there was any activity.

Saturday afternoon, police received a call about a suspicious person who was shirtless, covered in mud with no shoes, running in and out of traffic.  They say that man was Nylen.

Saturday night, Nylen was spotted at Pauly’s Liquor Shore in Lowell.  Store employees say he’s a regular and comes in several times a week but has been acting strange lately. They also say Nylen would kayak across the Grand River from his house to come to the store.  Friends say he lost that kayak last week, which may explain why he was covered in mud.

Police and K-9 units followed the scent of Nylen after he left Pauly’s.  They say they found a few empty cans of beer, but the trail went cold, and they called off their ground search around 11 p.m. Sunday.

Monday, the Kent County Sheriff’s Department Marine Unit searched the Grand River signs of Nylen, with no results.  Police say they have received a few tips from the Silent Observer tip line but still don’t know a specific area he could be.

Robert Nylen is 6-feet-tall with a slim build and light blonde hair.

If you see him or have any information on his whereabouts, call the Kent County Sheriff’s Department or Silent Observer at (616) 774-2345.
