BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — An email that said “I’m in!” in the subject field pretty much amounted to Mark Schauer’s official announcement Tuesday morning that he is running for the Democratic nomination for governor of Michigan.
The email message said that Schauer had filed paperwork to become a candidate and asked for donations.
Schauer said that Gov. Rick Snyder, who has not announced his intentions, “has taken our state in the wrong direction” by raising taxes “on pensions and working families” and cutting school funding.
Schauer served on the Battle Creek city commission and in the state House in the 1990s, the state Senate for two terms, and was elected to one term as congressman from Battle Creek in 2008.
