zip on the grandGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The proposed zip-line on the grounds of the Grand Rapids Public Museum is a no-go. Zip the Grand learned on Tuesday that the museum leadership has decided to go in a different direction. Back in February the City of Grand Rapids and the Grand Rapids Public Museum met to discuss the options for bringing a zip-line to downtown. The zip-line could have been placed at the Grand Rapids Public Museum’s Pearl Street location, next to the blue bridge.

Zip The Grand released the following:

Although it is a bit of a setback, we’re confident that a “champion” will emerge from the many conversations we have had with business leaders and property owners along the Grand River. Our primary goal with regards to location is that it be extremely visible and accessible from downtown Grand Rapids. It is our hope that “Zip the Grand” will further enhance the overwhelming excitement centered around the Grand River restoration initiative.

In spite of that news the City of Grand Rapids remains supportive that we can make this a reality. We are actively pursuing other viable sites along the Grand River in an effort to be the first zip line and ropes course to cross a major urban waterway in the Midwest.

Creators Jarl Brey and Jane Timmer want to build an 800-foot long zip-line, called Zip the Grand, across the Grand River.

If completed, Brey and Timmer said the commercial venture will attract schools, tourists, corporate events and other visitors.
