LAKE COUNTY, Mich. – Dozens of volunteers joined law enforcement in the search for a former Grand Valley State University football player Tuesday.

Cullen Finnerty, 30, hasn’t been seen since Sunday. He was visiting his family’s place at Bray Creek State Forest Campground, near the Baldwin area for the Memorial Day weekend.

Finnerty called his wife after he was fishing, telling her he was scared.

The sheriff’s department says their search is moving north through the Luther Swamp, but it’s a tough area to navigate because of the thick mud.

Even though Finnerty was out on the water, the sheriff’s department says the search is focused on inland areas after finding his gear on the shore.

Finnerty is 6’3” and weighs about 235 pounds. He was last seen wearing waders, sweatpants and a T-shirt as he was fishing in the Baldwin River.

Anyone with information on his possible whereabouts is asked to call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at (231)-745-2712.
