Stabenow To Voice Support For Farm Bill In Sparta

SPARTA, Mich — Senator Debbie Stabenow will be in Sparta Tuesday to show her support of the 2013 Farm Bill.

The senator is chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry. She will be at May Farms, located at 7947 Fruit Ridge Avenue NW in Sparta, at 2:45 p.m.

The farm bill she is supporting was passed by the Senate Agriculture Committee with a 15-5 vote back on May 14.

Stabenow’s reasoning for supporting the bill is on her web page. The House of Representatives would need to pass the bill by Sep. 30.

She will be joined Tuesday by

  • Jim May, owner of May Farms
  • John Bakker, executive director of the Michigan Asparagus Advisory Board
  • Julia Rothwell of Belding Fruit Storage and BelleHarvest Sales
  • Ben Wickerham, Michigan regional representative of Pheasants Forever
