HOLLAND, Mich. —  An argument between neighbors resulted in the lock down of a Holland neighborhood Tuesday.  Holland police say a man from an apartment building at 419 Stratford Way went across the street to an acquaintance’s house and threatened him.

Holland Public Safety officials said he had his hands behind his back and then took out a gun out and threatened his neighbor, ordering him to tell his kid to stay away from his children.

He came back to his own apartment building and the victim called Holland Police and the search for the man was on.

“We were told to come out,” said Jamie VanEyck, a resident in the complex.

VanEyck was watching her grandchildren as usual when she saw police out the window brandishing guns.  Authorities told him and others to get out of the building.

“My grandkids live here,” said VanEyck. “I grabbed them. If you look out the window and see a cop with a gun,
what the heck?”

Holland public safety officers were looking for her 30-year-old neighbor and that gun he may have used in the threat.

They blocked off entrances to make sure they caught the suspect if he tried to escape.

Officers say the man who flashed the gun was located in his apartment and he and another woman inside allowed investigators to search the place.

When officers got to the small attic in the upstairs apartment, they found a second man, hiding in the small area with a dismantled gun.

“Very surprised, you have to expect the unexpected and that was unexpected, finding him up there along with the gun,” said Jack Dykstra, Captain of the Holland Public Safety Department.

That 31-year-old man was arrested for obstructing police and for unrelated warrants.

The man accused of threatening his neighbor was also arrested on felonious assault and three unrelated warrants.

A 23-year-old woman who was accused of obstructing police was also arrested.
