Amash at campaignLANSING, Mich. — Amid former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land’s announcement yesterday that she was running for Michigan’s soon-to-be vacant Senate seat, Representative Justin Amash has announced several fundraising dates around the state, prompting speculation that he may soon throw his hat in the ring as well.

This isn’t the first time that Amash has hinted at potentially running for Senator Carl Levin’s seat when he retires in 2014.

“There will be huge long-term harm to the Michigan Republican Party if we put up an anti-civil liberties, pro-corporate welfare Senate candidate. I won’t let that happen without a fight,” a May 15 Facebook post on Amash’s page read.

If he decides to run against Land for the Republication nomination, he will also be up against Democrat Gary Peters, who has the support of both Levin and Michigan’s junior senator Debbie Stabenow.  Congressman Mike Rogers and Michigan Republican Party leader Saul Anuzis have also hinted at possible Senate bids as well.
