NEWAYGO COUNTY, Mich. — Thirty volunteers combed the back roads of rural Newaygo County Tuesday morning in search of a newly missing man.

Luke Eaves was last seen in the Baldwin area on Friday, and also texted his stepdaughter, “goodbye” after leaving according to Newaygo County Sheriff’s deputy Lieutenant Chad Palmiter.  Eaves never said anything about where he was going, and his phone is now off.

“We’ve activated our patrols up here with approximately eight patrol units,” Palmer said.  State police are also expected to fly their helicopter over the area Wednesday morning.

Eaves’ wife Karla said that when she came home Friday afternoon, she noticed he hadn’t checked the mail or fed the horses, and only his Ford F-150 and cell phone appeared to be gone.

“This is not like him,” Luke’s wife Karla Eaves said.  “It’s out of character for him to just not contact anybody.”

Palmiter is asking anyone with any information about this case to contact the Newaygo County central dispatch or Silent Observer.

Why are tax payer dollars getting spent to fuel a state police chopper to look for this man? Is he in danger? Is he a threat to the community? Doesn't sound like it. Sounds like he just wants to be left alone. So leave him alone. This is a brutal smack in the face of just how much we've become a nanny state instead of letting people live FREE.

Why???? Because he may be in danger and he may need help. He is a missing man in his truck, if you don't like living in a "nanny state " than move. Thank god for tax paying citizens that approve of this search, if it was your family member or friend you may think different. Luke has a lot of family and friends from his community concerned for his well being and I find your statement to he ignorant and heartless.

I am a tax payer and if it were my loved one I would hope the same would be done for our family. I would rather my tax dollars be spent on that then giving lazy people welfare…just sayng

I for one would like to know why no other news channel is reporting this??? I have checked Grand Rapids stations 8 & 13 and neither one has coverage on this. I live in northern Lake County and drive to Newaygo everyday to work. I would like to see a description of his truck other than Ford F150… give us specifics so the public can watch out for it… Also where did he go missing from… specifics people so the public might be of help…
