GRPS Investigating 2 Employees For Sexual Matters

KevinDengel_20130604164048_640_480GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A paraprofessional at Sherwood Park Elementary School was charged with six counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct today after a month-long investigation by Grand Rapids police.

Of the six charges filed against Kevin Dengel, three were fourth degree Criminal Sexual conduct involving a victim between the ages of 13 and 16 years old, He was charged  after the reports from several students were brought to the attention of Grand Rapids Public Schools Superintendent Teresa Wetherall, who then informed the police.

“Approximately one month ago, allegations were brought to our attention by some students about inappropriate conduct on the part of a paraprofessional at Sherwood,” Weatherall said in a letter to parents that went home with students today.

Weatherall sent out another letter to parents at University Prep Academy today.  According to that letter, a teacher has been placed on administrative leave while the police investigate several unspecified accusations from parents.

Grand Rapids Police Chief Kevin Belk told FOX 17 NEWS that the investigation into the University Prep Academy teacher involves sexual assaults against more than one student.
