Salvation Army Giving Away 2,000 Donuts for National Donut Day

Posted

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — In celebration of National Donut Day, the Salvation Army plans to give the pastry away by the thousands on Friday.

From 1:15 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., the organization will give away 2,000 donuts for free at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans on Monroe Avenue. The Salvation Army teamed up with Krispy Kreme Donuts for this event.

According to the Salvation Army, the organization fed donuts to allied soldiers on the front lines in France during World War I, and is credited with popularizing the sweet snack.

If you are interested in volunteering for the donut giveaway, you can find the information at the Salvation Army Action Group of Grand Rapids website.
