GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — About 90 new bicycle racks and 4 corrals are in the works for downtown Grand Rapids.

Wednesday morning, the Dowtown Development Authority approved a contract with Katerberg Verhage, the company now charged with installing the racks and corrals. Bidding for the contract began May 1st and closed at the end of May.

Eric Pratt, a Grand Rapids city planner, said the corrals are designed to accomadate up to 16 bikes.

Pratt said the installation of certain racks will be delayed because of other existing projects, such as the 28 bus rapid transit stations under construction.

A date for completed rack and corral installation has not been determined.
