GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The big screen is officially headed to downtown Grand Rapids.

The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Wednesday morning approved the purchase of an outdoor movie screen and equipment. The cost is around $55,000.

DDA executive director Kris Larson said the cost to rent a movie screen and equipment is about half of the purchasing price. The portable screen would give people an opportunity to gather and watch movies in downtown Grand Rapids.

Tim Kelly, a DDA project manager, said the requests for a movie screen in Downtown received overwhelming positive feedback on Facebook and more than a hundred comments.

The date for the big screen’s arrival has not been released.
